Program Description

Course Details: • Name: The Congressional Award Mentorship Program • Date: September 14, 2026 – January 24, 2027 • Time: Thursdays, 4:00 PM – 4:30 PM • Location: Newton Classroom • Grades: G8+ A personalized mentorship program supporting students participating in The Congressional Award, the United States Congress’ award program for young Americans. Students receive guidance in setting meaningful long-term goals, planning activities, documenting progress, and developing projects across the program’s four areas: Voluntary Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition/Exploration. Students complete their own activities and requirements while receiving structured mentorship and progress support. Students may begin with a half-an-hour $50 one-on-one trial session with the instructor. During this session, the student and parent can discuss the student’s interests, goals, current activities, prior progress, and plans for pursuing The Congressional Award. The instructor will introduce the program requirements, discuss possible goals and activities across the four program areas, and recommend a personalized preparation and progress plan. The instructor will also explain how ongoing mentorship can support the student in planning, documenting, and completing the program requirements. Through the mentorship process, students will also develop goal-setting, planning, self-management, leadership, community service, perseverance, reflection, and communication skills.
